ARG Platform Expands Engagement Scale and Strengthens Client Delivery for Management Partner Adam Carreno

Betting on Yourself: How Adam Carreno Found Scale Through ARG

When Independence Meets Reality

For years, Adam Carreno had what most people would call a safe job. Working for one of the industry’s largest technology resellers provided him with the security of a strong brand, a steady pipeline, and a playbook that had been refined over years.

But something kept bothering him.

Every time a client asked for help evaluating network providers, cloud infrastructure, or telecom contracts, Adam found himself doing the same thing. Gathering vendor quotes, opening Excel, and building a spreadsheet by hand while trying to normalize pricing across different providers so the client could compare them. Although he was part of a huge company, he often felt like an army of one.

The process was slow and cumbersome, as vendor quotes arrived in a patchwork of formats that required extensive data cleanup and pricing standardization before a customer could even begin evaluating their options.

Adam also had another challenge; nearly all of his business relationships were with executives in the enterprise space.

In the mid-market and enterprise, technology needs are more complex and multi-threaded. For these clients to make thoughtful business decisions, they need more than a spreadsheet comparing supplier capabilities.

They need guidance from a team that has seen these challenges before. They need data to support digital transformation efforts. They need help defining requirements, timelines, and aligning stakeholders. They also need a clear record of how decisions were made, so implementation can move forward with confidence. If done right, all this documentation supports post-sale implementation and leads to better outcomes.

Without a back-office team to support the work, pricing analysts to validate numbers, or an operational structure to drive projects forward, every step of the process fell to one person juggling sales, analysis, and delivery at the same time.

“Sometimes I would spend days building a comprehensive pricing analysis. For the projects we did win, I would cringe every time the phone rang after the sale. It was just me to help, and my clients needed more.”

That moment crystallized a bigger realization: despite his deep expertise and the trust he had built through client relationships, Adam was being held back by a system that fundamentally limited the value he could deliver.

So he made a decision most people hesitate to make.  He walked away from the corporate safety net and bet on himself.

Building a business from scratch can mean carrying everything yourself. Sales, analysis, contracts, vendor negotiations, financial modeling, and client delivery all fall on the founder’s shoulders. Every detail, every decision, and every late night.  Adam knew he needed more support to deliver the value his clients expected.

Building a Business Alone

Leaving the grind of the corporate world gave Adam freedom. It also exposed a problem every independent advisor eventually faces.

Scale.

While clients expect quick answers and vendors demand precision, financial analysis must be accurate enough to earn the trust of CIOs and CFOs. In a boutique advisory practice, however, the weight of all those competing responsibilities lands squarely on one person.

Adam could win the trust of his clients. That was never the issue.

The challenge was everything that came after the initial conversation. Pricing requests, vendor coordination, data normalization, and financial modeling are all essential to delivering credible recommendations, yet each step requires time and operational support.

Without infrastructure behind you, the work becomes exhausting. Growth slows down, or the pressure to keep everything moving starts to create risk.

Adam knew he didn’t want to build a large internal organization just to solve those problems. He wanted something different. A way to keep the independence of an entrepreneur while gaining the operational horsepower of a much larger firm.

That search led him to ARG.

What stood out immediately was something simple: trust. As Adam put it, “Trust and honesty. That’s why I chose ARG.”

A Platform That Changes the Equation

The difference became obvious the first time Adam ran a project through the ARG platform.

Instead of building spreadsheets himself, he entered the project details into the system and opened a pricing request. The request went directly to an analyst. From there, the process moved quickly. Vendor registrations were created. Quotes were gathered. The data was normalized. A total cost analysis was built, and another analyst reviewed the work before it went back to Adam.

In other words, the analysis was no longer resting on one person’s shoulders. The partnership changed something fundamental. Adam could stay focused on the work he loved most—building relationships with clients, helping them make better technology decisions, and growing the business.

Behind the scenes, a much larger team supported those efforts through a network of specialized roles.

Strategic planning and pre-engagement alignment became part of every project. While engineers provided technical expertise and pricing analysts handled financial modeling, established vendor relationships and implementation specialists ensured solutions worked as intended. Adam was no longer on his own. He was supported from initial requirements gathering through ongoing client support.

All of it operated as part of the same platform.

What Clients Notice First

The impact showed up quickly. Projects moved faster, and client conversations became deeper and more strategic.

Clients noticed the difference. One example involved a regional retailer with 55 storefronts across New York and New Jersey. They were in a dire situation with staff turnover and an MSP that was failing to deliver. They had massive security gaps, their POS systems were tipping over causing outages and affecting revenue. The client had hundreds of tickets backlogged in their helpdesk. To make matters worse, they were at the end of a lease and moving into a new HQ and failed to plan to move their critical infrastructure out of the “data center” they were hosting in that building. During the engagement, ARG was able to quickly assess the environment, engage engineering resources and find both a managed IT Provider and security vendors that could jump in quickly to resolve the challenge.  ARG’s project management and support worked directly with the client’s CIO to guide the project to success.

For Adam, that moment captured what the partnership really meant. More than helping him win the opportunity, the partnership ensured the client had the support they needed long after the contract was signed.

At ARG, implementation does not fall back on the advisor alone. Dedicated project management and engineering teams take the lead on deployments, coordinating directly with the client and the vendors involved.

“The work is really divided into three stages: the sourcing strategy, the rollout of the solution, and the ‘day-two’ support that follows once the solution is live.”

That support matters. Instead of fielding every operational question himself, Adam knows ARG’s tenured Client Experience and Account Management teams ensure installations run smoothly and support clients long after the contract is signed. For clients, that means consistent follow-through and proactive support. For Adam, it means he can stay focused on advising and growing relationships while knowing the experience after the sale will be handled the right way.

The Three Parts of the ARG Model

Adam often describes the platform as a three-part structure that allows advisors to focus on clients while the organization supports the full lifecycle of a project.

Advisory and Strategy
Helping clients define the strengths of different approaches, evaluate the market, understand the financial impact, and align stakeholders so they can make confident technology decisions.

Implementation and Rollout
Project management and engineering teams coordinate deployments and ensure outcomes are achieved, financial objectives are met, and the full value of the technology investment is realized.

Day-Two Support
Account management and operational support help clients with any issues after the contract is signed.

Together, these capabilities allow advisors to operate with the resources of a much larger firm while maintaining the benefits of their independence.

“One of my fears in leaving a big company was winning and losing by myself, feeling like I was alone. With ARG I have a big team supporting me and my clients’ success, we win together!”

The Work That Matters

Today, Adam is proud he had the confidence to take that leap. When he walked away from the safety of corporate life, there was uncertainty. But he quickly realized the ARG platform meant he was never really alone.

When advisors consider whether to go out on their own, Adam often gives them a candid answer. If the goal is to build a standalone brand and run every aspect of a company yourself, the independent path might make sense. But if the goal is to grow a business, serve clients at the highest level, and do it with the support of a proven platform, the answer becomes clearer.

You don’t have to build the infrastructure. You can plug into it and focus on what you do best, helping clients make the technology decisions that shape their future.

And for Adam, that work carries a deeper sense of meaning today than it ever did before.

“I feel proud of what I’m doing and the work we do for clients.”

With ARG behind him, Adam can deliver something his clients value just as much as the technology itself: a consistent process, expert support, and a trusted advisor who stands beside them long after the decision is made.
